For
God, I Believe and Receive
But for the wondrous grace
of God,
My wretched state you’d
see,
But for the wondrous grace
of God,
This man would n’er
stand free.
But for this gift of love
supreme
The blackness of my night
would scream,
With demon’s hate and
fire’s pain,
My future full of just the
same.
(my future full of just
the same)
But for the wondrous grace
of God
My useless life would
daily stand
in empty tribute to my
sin,
a victim to the Law’s
demand.
How can a God of Light so
pure,
Look on this worm of
Adam’s race,
Yet pay a price beyond
belief,
To purchase freedom, offer
grace?
Why should He give this
gift to me?
A man enslaved to sinful
life.
Why should His love flow
from His Throne,
and free me from my dire
plight?
I cannot think these
thoughts so high
My mind too simple cannot
fly
In such a lofty place
above
Where dwells this Perfect
God of Love.
Chorus:
But God, I believe and
receive, for Your hands, they show us Your love,
And God I believe and
receive, this Gift you have sent from above.
For God, I believe and
receive, though my eyes cannot see to Your Land,
And God, I believe and
receive, for in Your Promise is where I will stand.
